Yes to this. I’ve lived both extremes, strong clericalism in Rome and what @MassimoFaggioli calls “laicalism” in higher ed in the US . We are, and need to be, the people of God together on the way helping each other, not two separate factions. https://t.co/tGiYvovfnT

One thing that we’re not paying enough attention to in all of the #Vigano morass is the role that #pope #saint #jpii had in creating this situation. The #elevation of #McCarrick to the college of #cardinals was his call. Even saints make mistakes, so let’s be honest about it.

RT @austeni: Francis’s response to crude Viganò putsch is very astute. He knows the claims will fall apart as journalists probe, and that the true motives behind it will be brought into the light. https://t.co/xGe3HeBMjN

RT @DawnofMercy: May 2, 2012: Vigano greets guests on behalf of Benedict XVI at Pontifical Mission Societies gala honoring McCarrick! https://t.co/48qgqEVclU This is well *after* Vigano alleges B16 sanctioned McCarrick. His letter deserves careful scrutiny. @jdflynn @roccopalmo @AmericanPapist https://t.co/IwxGaDmTNa

@austeni @RocksEm But, to be clear, said ascent took place under JPII, which isn’t the narrative that Vigano, or those who support him, are interested in promoting.

RT @antoniospadaro: #PopeFancis has never defended himself against the accusations (for example at the time of the dictatorship or previously). Nor does he boast merit (as in the case of aid to those persecuted by the dictatorship) because he *knows* that sooner or later the thruth will surface.

@gregorykhillis Well... the policy has usually been to only talk about the trip... we’ll see.

from Twitter https://twitter.com/mrogerssj

@gregorykhillis If ever there was a day to skip it, this was likely it. Vigano’s timing was all about the press conference. Perhaps it’s better for the pope to get home and sort this out before making a statement to the press.

from Twitter https://twitter.com/mrogerssj

The canons on this sort of sensationalism are important to keep in mind in light of the Vigano case, and as we wait for the release of the Papal press conference Post-Ireland. https://t.co/CkyK9bf7kf

from Twitter https://twitter.com/mrogerssj

RT @jdflynn: One point worth noting for clarity: Vigano does not say that Francis had knowledge of McCarrick’s alleged abuse of minors. While that may seem like a small point, it is not immaterial.

from Twitter https://twitter.com/mrogerssj

RT @cwwhite212: Abuse survivors groups Ending Clergy Abuse says +Vigano’s letter “is infighting between curia factions that are exploiting the abuse crisis and victims of clergy sexual abuse as leverage in the struggle for church power.” https://t.co/2My7NYnFpd
